Mannish Law #39 Own the work, don't own the stress.

They call stress "The Silent Killer" and it's fittingly named. Society expects us to be the rock that our families lean on or swim to in the storm. Many of us take on this responsibility and privelige with fervor and over time we unknowingly become stressed by the demands of our roles. Because we are expected to be strong, we often internalize this stress and neglect it's effects on our health. Men are more likely to suffer from high blood pressure & heart attacks due to stress than women as a result of this. We often take on unhealthy coping mechanisms to temporarily deal with these impacts, but the silent killer waits patiently to claim it's next victim. We have to be cognizant of the triggers that stress us out and avoid them or choose healthy coping mechanisms. Work is one of our biggest stressors so we have to disconnect the stress from the work. We need to take our breaks, our vacations, workout, leave the work at work. It's going to be there tomorrow. Own the work, not the stress, so you will be there too.
